  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • 2 tbsp poppy seeds
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg + 2 egg yolks (room temperature)
  • 1 1/2 tsp orange extract
  • Optional: Orange food color
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tbsp orange juice
  • 1 tbsp orange zest to sprinkle on top (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, salt, baking soda, orange zest, and poppy seeds.
  3. In a large bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until fluffy.
  4. Add eggs and mix well.
  5. Stir in orange extract (and food coloring if using).
  6. Gradually mix in dry ingredients until just combined.
  7. Scoop dough onto lined baking sheets with space in between.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until edges are lightly browned.
  9. Allow cookies to cool before glazing with a mixture of powdered sugar and orange juice.
