  • 500 g ground beef (minced)
  • 1 large onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 330 ml dark beef broth
  • 300 ml beef stock
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 1 egg (beaten for egg wash)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add minced beef, season with salt and pepper, and brown until fully cooked.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until soft, then mix in minced garlic.
  3. Stir in flour and cook for one minute before adding dark beef broth. Scrape up any bits from the pan and let simmer briefly.
  4. Return browned beef to the mixture along with beef stock, tomato paste, and thyme. Simmer on low heat for about 45 minutes until thickened.
  5. Transfer filling to a pie dish, cover with puff pastry, seal edges, and brush with beaten egg.
  6. Bake at 200°C (390°F) for approximately 30 minutes until golden brown.
