Ingredients

Scale
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 12 tablespoons cold unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup cold water
  • lbs baking apples (3 large)
  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons melted unsalted butter
  • 1 egg (beaten) for brushing
  • 2 tablespoons turbinado sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Create the crust: In a food processor, blend flour, salt, and sugar. Add cold butter and pulse until crumbly. Gradually add cold water until dough forms. Chill for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Prepare the filling: Peel, core, and slice apples thinly. Toss apple slices with sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, melted butter, and salt in a bowl.
  4. Roll out chilled dough into a circle on parchment paper (around 14 inches wide). Transfer to the baking sheet.
  5. Arrange apple slices over the dough in overlapping circles. Fold edges over apples in pleats.
  6. Brush edges with beaten egg and sprinkle turbinado sugar on top.
  7. Bake for 55 to 65 minutes until apples are tender and crust is golden brown.
