Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups frozen cherries
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • 1/4 cup warm water (for dough)
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • For Frosting: 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, 3 oz cream cheese, 2 cups powdered sugar, and vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cherry filling by combining frozen cherries, sugar, water, and cornstarch in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook until thickened.
  2. Activate the yeast by mixing it with warm water and letting it sit until frothy.
  3. In a large bowl, combine milk and sugar; add the activated yeast and eggs. Gradually mix in flour and salt to form a soft dough.
  4. Knead in butter until smooth; let the dough rise in a greased bowl until doubled.
  5. Roll out the dough, spread cherry filling evenly, roll tightly, slice into pieces, and let them rise again.
  6. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Prepare frosting by beating butter and cream cheese; mix in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
