Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons instant dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup fresh basil, minced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. In a stand mixer, combine yeast, warm water, and sugar. Mix briefly and let sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add salt, minced basil, and vegetable oil to the yeast mixture; mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually add flour one cup at a time while mixing until a smooth dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough for about five minutes until elastic; add more flour if needed.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about an inch thick and then roll it up like cinnamon rolls.
  7. Place rolled dough on a prepared cookie sheet and let rise for 20 minutes.
  8. Bake for approximately 30 minutes; cover with foil for the last ten minutes to prevent over-browning.
  9. Let cool slightly before slicing.
